The process of buying your home can be confusing and intimidating, especially if you are building a home or buying your first home. Working with people in just these situations is my speciality, and I will be there to help you from your first interview until you move into your home and beyond.

Construction home loans and first home buyers

Buying a first home or building from scratch can both be very stressful situations, if things go wrong for some reason. One problem you absolutely don’t need to have is the hassle of getting the right finance, at the right time. Making sure everything is sorted out satisfactorily can be achieved in just one meeting in over 95% of cases – so many times, I have been able to take care of even the most complex scenarios.

While no two situations are ever the same, I have extensive experience with the complexities of both building and buying your first home. And with access to over 800 loans from both major bank and non-bank lenders, I can match just about any lending scenario with a great home loan.

When you are building a property, it also helps to have a lender who knows the residential estate you are considering, so I have also established specific arrangements with specialist lenders to work directly on the estates in this area.

Why I became a mortgage broker

When I was 22 and my brother was 18, we decided we wanted to buy our first investment property. At the time we were working, we had supportive parents, and we had a friendly bank manager. We went to the bank with out parents, chatted to the local branch manager – someone my father knew quite well – and then we all signed a thick pile of paperwork. Loan done and we got the house we wanted.

But later on, despite everyone’s best intentions, we discovered that we had really signed up for the wrong loan structure. You see, we had signed up for a fixed rate loan and when we wanted to make significant extra payments we could not. And the nice bank manager… Well it turned out that the bank had taken far too much security for the loan amount. They not only had the mortgage over our property, but they had also gotten our parents to put up their own home title.. The bank had also requested our parents as guarantors, which was so unnecessary as as we had significant deposit. I also now know that there were a number of other home loan products that offered more flexibility and a number of other features.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. It is experiences like my own that encouraged me to go into mortgage broking. I can help people avoid the mistakes I made and get the very best deal.
