Leading Ladies Summit 2017

The inaugural Leading Ladies of Loan Market summit was an exclusive event that kicked off with Mia Freedman, the Co-founder and creative director of the Mamamia Women’s media company by gracing the stage as the event’s keynote speaker, wowing the audience with her authentic and honest life stories. A wonderful line-up of over 10 speakers from throughout the Loan Market Group followed sharing valuable insight, knowledge and support to assist the ladies in growing and diversifying their businesses and expanding their teams.

Andrea McNaughton, State Director for Victoria and Tasmania who spearheaded the event concept commented; “it empowered and connected our female business owners encouraging confidence that they can juggle raising a family and building a market leading business. It was exciting to see their willingness to embrace ideas and strategies for diversifying their services, growing their teams and strengthening client care."

Due to the success of this years event and the positive feedback about this new initiative we are pleased to confirm that the Leading Ladies summit will become an annual event.

Treasure House Update

Through the generosity of Loan Market’s contribution we are pleased to share the progress of our charity project. Mark Winter provides an update on the developments of the new Treasure House Orphanage in Fiji.

Bula to everyone,

It has been a long time between updates and apologies for this, however we do know everything is on island time!

I recently flew over to Fiji to meet the board of Treasure House and the building committee which has been established to oversee the construction of the new orphanage. I was shown the block of land where the new facility will be built and the new plans for the building that is looking to be established for the children.

So finally we have the land registered to Treasure House, which has taken some time however we are finally there. We have also put the building plans out to tender to local builders for the scope of works.

We anticipate this taking a little while as there is lots of construction happening in Fiji at the moment, upgrades, repairs from the Cyclones, etc. however we are hopeful of a good outcome and being able to announce a builder once this process has been finalised.

Vinaka, Mark Winter

Compliance

To further Loan Market’s rigorous approach to increasing company-wide compliance awareness, the Risk and Compliance team are updating the training material available which will be released in the coming weeks.

Risk and Compliance are working hard to compose a thorough and relevant suite of training modules to better facilitate the company’s over-all compliance, which starts at the individual level. In the Three Lines of Defence model, it is the front line staff and management who are the “first line of defence”- therefore it is the quality of these people, the systems and culture that are the main determinant of success.

When managing company-wide risks, the Three Lines of Defence model is a simple way to communicate and clarify the responsibilities of various lines of management with respect to their control responsibilities. Information on this model will be fleshed out in the Springboard training modules, however in the meantime please find more detailed information on the Three Lines of Defence model in the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) paper here

“They can review your protection needs, including anything you might already have in place. They’ll also be able to discuss your Super, and Investment options.

It’s complimentary to you - I cover the cost of the first meeting. And you don’t have to take it any further if you don’t want to. There’s no obligation at all.”

What do brokers working with Wealth Market say…?

“Its great that they keep me updated about how it’s progressing. I know what’s going on and I don’t lose track of clients”
