Loan Market Wins Best Community Engagement

Last Friday at the Australian Mortgage Awards (AMA’s), Loan Market was awarded the Best Community Engagement award in recognition of it's HOPE (Help Open People's Eyes) program and it's contribution to those Australian's who don't have a safe place to sleep.

Loan Market director Mark De Martino said it was incredible how much the HOPE program accomplished over the past year and the award demonstrated that the Loan Market team was having a meaningful impact to combating homelessness in Australia.

“It’s been amazing to see our brokers and staff unite throughout the country. Our partnerships with Vinnies, OzHarvest and the Big Issue have given our brokers a great platform to give back to their communities and help alleviate homelessness. I’m especially proud of what our team did at our national conference in Fiji - raising $50,000 to build a local orphanage,” Mr De Martino said.

Loan Market and Ray White Chief Marketing Officer, Karen Hall accepted the award on behalf of the company and said Loan Market’s reputation in the community was growing stronger and everyone in the company should be incredibly proud.

“Sam and Mark really stepped up in June by participating in the CEO sleepout and our broker teams across the country have done some amazing work with care package drives for OzHarvest. We’ve worked closely with our charity partners and listened to what their recipients are actually in need of.”

“Loan Market’s core business is helping people get into a home and it makes sense that we would help those less fortunate find a safe place to sleep at night. It’s for this reason we launched the HOPE program,” Ms Hall said.

Over the next 12 months Loan Market plans to deepen its relationship with all its charity partners, and drive more awareness and funding through customer survey donations and commission contributions. Loan Market aims to drive its HOPE program through donating time, stuff and money.

Examples of HOPE initiatives in 2013:


  • At the ‘Feeding the 5000’ even in July, members of the public were invited to a free hot lunch in Sydney’s Martin Place. Food was prepared from rescued ingredients that would otherwise have been wasted, such as fresh but cosmetically imperfect fruit and vegetables. A team of Brokers from as far away as Canberra joined some of Sydney’s top chefs along with hundreds of volunteers will serve up free meals throughout the event

  • Corporate staff and brokers participated in the Big Issue’s fortnightly BBQ accross VIC, NSW, SA QLD and WA. Volunteers served food and engaged with the venders of the magazine.


  • Loan Market started its journey with OzHarvest by delivering hundreds of kilos of non-perishable food items at state-based Professional Development days. Brokers and staff collected over 300kg of food to deliver as “Care Packages” to those in need.

  • Loan Market partnered with Virgin Mobile to secure 10 smartphones for OzHarvest drivers to enable more efficient work practices and agent and donor tracking while they’re on the road

  • Large screen TVs from the Loan Market Sydney office were donated to OzHarvest instead of being discarded


  • The annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout raises funds to help bring an end to homelessness in Australia. Loan Market leaders and brokers slept on the streets on 20 June - Sam White in Sydney and Mark De Martino in Melbourne. The teams raised a combined $10,000

  • Brokers have the opportunity to ‘give back’ during their everyday business operations by purchasing the OzHarvest "food rescue" cookbook as a settlement or client gift

  • Loan Market has donated over $1,000 to OzHarvest as a result of its customer satisfaction surveys.
