Mortgage Broker Has Street Named in His Honour
Ipswich City Council Planning and Development Committee chairman Paul Tully said a street in a new estate atBellbirdParkhad been named Mark Winter Court as a tribute to the contributions to the area by Mr Winter and his family.
Mr Winter, a former Loan Market International Broker of the Year, helped establish the local Goodna andSpringfieldrugby union clubs and he also played a major role assisting victims in the Goodna area of the devastating January 2011 floods.
“Mark Winter has been very active on the local scene in terms of promoting rugby union and supporting charitable organisations including Westside Community Care,” Cr Tully said.
Springfield-based Mr Winter said he was “humbled and overwhelmed” to have been honored by the council in this way.
“You usually only see sports star getting streets named after them, not a humble mortgage broker like me,” he said.
Mr Winter was also honored by the Ipswich City Council for his services to the community in its Australia Day awards this year.
“I have lived in the area for many years and I have always had a passion for the Ipswich region andBrisbane’s western corridor,” Mr Winter said.
“Not only did I establish my own mortgage broking business here, I have also chosen to raise my family in the area and have made a number of investments in the community.
“We also do some fund raising for charity and a golf day we had recently held at Brookwater Golf club helped raise $6,000 for local charities.”
