Ray White and Loan Market cook off to combat hunger
Ray White and Loan Market, have teamed up for the 2015 CEO CookOff in bid to tackle issues in Australia around food insecurity, homelessness and food wastage.
Chairman of Loan Market, Sam White and Director of Ray White Hotels, Andrew Jolliffe, are participating in this year's cook off, hosted by OzHarvest at Carriageworks in Sydney on 2 March.
The CEO CookOff aims to bring awareness to the waste problem in Australia. Annually, Australia produces enough food to feed around 60 million people, yet two million Australians still rely on food relief each year.
On Monday, 2 March more than 100 business leaders will partner with 40 of Australia's top chefs to cook for 1,000 Sydneysiders in need.
Mr White and Mr Jolliffe agree that this is a social issue that needs the nation's attention.
"Australian households throw out over $1,000 worth of groceries each year - that works out to be one out of every five shopping bags," Mr Jolliffe said.
"And with one million Aussie kids still going to school without breakfast each morning or bed without dinner each night, this is an issue that needs to be addressed," Mr White added.
Ray White and Loan Market are both members of the White family owned group of companies.
The CEO CookOff is an initiative of OzHarvest. The event highlights the challenges facing Australians in need in the areas of food security, wastage and homelessness. At the inaugural event in February 2012 almost $1m was raised. In 2013 and 2014 in excess of $1m was raised and in 2015, the initiative hopes to raise even more.
