Happy International Women's Day!

Today is International Women's Day. As we celebrate all the women in our Loan Market family 💙, as well as all the other Women in our lives, I wanted to share some personal thoughts about women and money.

Why can't women talk about money?

I don't see it that way at all. My mum ran the finances in our house growing up, with an accounting background, and managed to do very well. I greatly admire a lot of the women clients I have, from buying on their own or with partners to running the finances, everyone from actuaries, to lawyers, doctors, accountants and engineers, teachers, the list goes on...

Why don't women talk about money?

As a finance broker, I am always having financial/money conversations with clients, be they women or men, and I see my job to make sure when clients are making money decisions that they understand all of the implications, so they can make an informed decision.

Why must women talk about money?

Getting the finances right is very important. Everything from having a budget, streamlining bills, and achieving goals all come down to making the right money decisions. The better you understand it, the more correct decisions you make.

How will you challenge the idea that women aren't financially savvy?

My experience, talking to thousands of women over a 20-year finance career, is that the women I talk to have done amazingly well, whether it be buying homes and investment properties, having savings plans, to climbing the corporate ladder, and balancing that with raising children and balancing the work and family life. My mum, sister, and wife are all financially savvy. I approach all conversations from the viewpoint that women are all financially savvy and see my job to share from my 20 years of experience dealing with all kinds of situations to help clients understand what is the right money decision for them.
